I loved the sound of The Big Moon from the first five seconds I heard them on Radio One not too long ago, although the London four-piece came together in 2014. They combine a sound that’s not like anything out at the moment with something that feels oddly familiar.
If clever, cooky lyrics and strong female vocals are what you’re after (aren’t we all) then look no further.
Their sound reminds me of Marina and the Diamonds meets Kate Nash meets Daughter. And all three are some of my favourites. The poetic lyrics give me all the feels, much like Kate Jackson’s 2016 album which I had on repeat for months at a time; yes, if The Long Blondes were your cup of tea then this will be up your street.
Lead Singer Juliette Jackson describes the tracks on the album; “It’s like having eleven tiny babies all at once, all with their own little faces and voices and personalities, and now we’re ready to throw them out of our nest and into your ears.” You’ll probably have heard some of the eleven tiny babies, already; the album includes past singles Sucker, The Road, Cupid (my personal favourite), Silent Movie Susie and January 2017 release Formidable. The most rescent by the way was Annie Mac’s Hottest record in the World BBC music has championed the women from early on- which surely shows the band are destined for an exciting future, if you’ve heard it you’ll know what I mean when I say that it’s credited with a perfect build-up to an intense and passionate crescendo which you won’t be able to get out of your head.
The best bit about this album? There isn’t a song you won’t like.

Having spent an unhealthy amount of time watching past live performances on Youtube, I’m already counting the minutes until I get to hear them at Live at Leeds over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend (helpfully falling conveniently in opposition to its own title on 29 April).
